Are you looking for new ways to brighten up your surroundings?
Whether it's for yourself or others, calligraphy can be a great way to make art that can be used as gifts or hung to decorate your own place!

Check out this flourished piece I wrote while prepping for my upcoming dip-pen class at the local cultural center.
When life gets busy, it's great to zone out while focusing on the calligraphy piece I'm making. And now, looking at this new wall decoration, I'm dreaming about all kinds of exciting places to escape to.
Where do you find inspiration? With this piece, I started from a sample lesson in a book, but then adjusted some of the letter shapes and flourishes to ones that better appealed to me. I think it's important to get inspiration in a variety of places, but also to be true to myself and work on further developing my own style. Actually, looking at it again, I may be noticing a few spots I'd like to improve it still. Aah! The artist is always most critical of their own work, right?
In my spare time, I love writing fancy messages to send to friends and family.
A while back, when I heard that someone I care about was having a difficult time, I got in touch with her to see what I could make to try and cheer her up.
She told me her favourite Bible verse, and I was glad to write it out in calligraphy.

I prepared it in standard Classy Letters, but I suppose it would also look nice with the flourished Swirly Letters style. Maybe I'll give it another go, now that I've had more practice flourishing. Regardless, she was so happy to receive it, and it also gave me joy to see her reaction.
If you're looking for a similar way to cheer up someone you love, please do contact them and let them know you're thinking of them. I've found that when you give someone a smile, it's also a great way to put a smile on your own face!
Feel free to reach out to me here via email if you'd like to get in touch with your loved ones using calligraphy.
